About CMT Materials
CMT Materials,
Inc. was founded in 1998 by three materials research and development
engineers with over 60 years of combined experience in the field of high
performance materials. The company focused on developing the
HYTAC
family of plug assist materials by working directly
with thermoformers, tooling shops and machine builders to tailor the properties
of the plug to the specific needs of the end users. The interesting combination
of insulative, abuse resistance, machining, and other mechanical property
requirements of the plug materials offered unique challenges for these
syntactic and polymer systems. As CMT focused on the interaction between
the plug and polymer sheet, it became evident that the industry would be
enhanced greatly by a better understanding and measurement of these specific
interaction parameters. We set a goal to become the acknowledged experts in
plug materials, thereby supporting our customers with a cost effective material
solution for their specific application.
Innovative Materials for Plug Assist--Our Only
Job
We are focused on our
customer's needs for plug assist and tooling materials. We listen to them. We
draw upon our knowledge in
materials and provide the best solutions that meet
their requirements. Our product line includes syntactic and solid polymer
materials available in a variety of sizes in the form of rod, sheet or block.
We also offer custom casting operations for large or difficult to form plugs.
We also provide material and support for prototype or vacuum forming with
REN Shape Tooling and Modeling boards and
METAPOR porous aluminum.
Facilities
In 2006 CMT purchased an
11,000 square foot facility in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Our newly renovated facility incorporates all of the
fabrication, machining and testing equipment necessary for material development
and production. The new site supports CMT's expanding thermoform tooling
material business by allowing us to increase office, production and warehousing
space.
CMT's larger new facility also
allows us to continue to expand our materials and product development projects
in thermoforming plug assist materials with a threefold increase in laboratory
space. Similarly, areas for custom casting and cutting have been increased
threefold, permitting more efficient customer service.
Our
Massachusetts location, midway between Boston and Providence RI, allows easy
access, integration and networking with the wide array of local universities
and high tech companies. Product shipment throughout the US and abroad is
supported from Massachusetts.
